Pet robots: remote control, self-docking or AI?

Movement, charging and recognition are separate capabilities. Start with the job you want the robot to do.

A robot can move without choosing its own route. It can return to a charger without recognising a pet. It can recognise a pet in a recording without being able to follow it safely around the home.

Three questions, not one AI label

ROLA Mini, EBO Mini and Mini Sport show why model names matter. The existing ROLA Mini support describes no automatic charging. EBO Mini adds a return-to-dock system. Mini Sport adds person/pet recognition for recordings.

Start with the floor plan

Mark closed doors, stairs, rug edges and the place the pet rests. Those physical boundaries determine the useful camera route. A product video on an open floor cannot establish performance in your home.

Choose the interaction you need

A stationary treat camera can reach one familiar spot. A moving camera can change viewpoint but needs a usable route. Neither should be sold as proof that a pet feels less lonely. Watch how the individual animal responds and stop an interaction it avoids.

For a shop demonstration

Show steering, returning to the dock and recording features separately. Say which steps the owner performs. A short demonstration should leave the customer knowing what they must do when the device cannot continue.

Compare charging with recognition

Documented capabilities, not a navigation test
ModelChargingRecognition distinction
ROLA MiniNo automatic charging in the support material reviewedRemote movement does not establish autonomous pet following
EBO MiniAutomatic return using infrared and route memoryDoes not include Mini Sport’s person/pet recording recognition
EBO Mini SportIncludes the Mini charging capabilitiesManufacturer describes recognition for organising recordings

Enabot specifies a 6 mm obstacle limit for EBO Mini and warns that thick carpet can impede movement. Measure thresholds and consider where a stranded robot would need help. Automatic charging is not evidence that every route through your home is navigable.
